A light bar, rock lights, a compressor and a fridge can turn a good rig into a useful one. Garmin PowerSwitch gives those 12-volt accessories a centralized control point, with wireless switching from a compatible Garmin navigator or smartphone. Build the accessory wiring around the compact box and keep the controls on a screen you already use.

Six circuits, with the capacity clearly defined

Each of the six switch outputs supports up to 30 amps, with a maximum combined load of 100 amps for the whole box. Those ratings must both be respected: six outputs do not mean 180 amps of simultaneous capacity.

Use it for suitable 12-volt lighting, communication radios, refrigerators, horns, air compressors and other accessories within their electrical limits. Garmin PowerSwitch is not intended to control motors that require reversing polarity.

Two hardwired control inputs detect signals from 3.3 to 18 volts. An ignition signal can trigger your chosen outputs, for example, so selected accessories switch on automatically when the vehicle starts.

Put useful controls in the cockpit

The Garmin PowerSwitch app and Bluetooth connection provide the touchscreen control interface. Customize virtual switch panels with labels, icons and channel groups, and configure supported lighting dimming and flashing functions.

Garmin lists compatibility with Tread 2, Tread 2 Overland and SxS models, several Tread XL navigators, zūmo XT3, RV 795 and the Garmin Drive 7.1-inch navigator, among other specific devices. Verify the exact navigator in the compatibility list below; the navigator or smartphone is a separate purchase.

The app also supports switching access through compatible Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in-dash setups. The appropriate compatible phone, app and infotainment connection are required.

One controller can pair with up to four PowerSwitch boxes, and one box can pair with up to four controllers. Additional boxes expand a larger build; they are sold separately.

A compact box for a properly planned installation

The housing measures 4.9 × 1.3 × 3.0 inches and carries an IPX7 water rating. Its compact shape provides mounting flexibility for 4x4s, UTVs, side-by-sides, ATVs and snowmobiles.

Wireless control means you can avoid adding a bank of physical dashboard switches or running their control wires through the firewall. The box, vehicle supply, ground and accessory loads still require a correct wired installation.

Garmin supplies the PowerSwitch box, power cable, ground cable and terminals. Select wiring, load protection, routing and mounting according to the manufacturer’s installation instructions and the actual accessories on the vehicle.
