A check valve is a one-way valve. In a vacuum brake booster line it lets vacuum draw out of the booster but keeps it from bleeding back when engine vacuum drops, so the pedal assist holds up after the throttle opens. This one is made for carburetor setups built on PMO or Weber carburetors.
