Product details
EMPI 70-2868-0 is a set of five Porsche-style lug nuts in chrome-plated steel, with an M14x1.5 thread, a 19mm hex, and a ball seat, for wheels mounted on 14mm studs with radiused lug holes. The ball (radius) seat is the rounded face that matches the spherical seat machined into Porsche wheels and stock VW steel wheels. The 19mm hex is the same size as the head on EMPI's stock-replacement 14mm VW wheel bolt, so one socket covers both.
EMPI builds the same Porsche-style shape in aluminum alloy with a 12-point head (70-2882 chrome, 70-2883 black, 70-2887 raw) and in zinc-plated steel (70-2860). Wheels machined for a 60-degree taper need EMPI's 70-2872 chrome steel 60-degree 14mm nuts instead. EMPI's 70-2878-0 long M14-1.5 studs are the usual partner when spacers are in the stack.

Fitment & Compatibility
Fits ball-seat wheels on M14x1.5 studs. A stock 1968–1979 Beetle, 1968–1974 Karmann Ghia, or 1966–1973 Type 3 came with 14mm ball-seat lug bolts, so those cars need studs fitted to the drums or rotors first. Most new EMPI and other aftermarket custom wheels use a 60-degree seat, so check yours.
Installation & Tuning Notes
EMPI asks installers to confirm that each nut clamps the wheel against the drum or rotor and has not bottomed out on the stud, which leaves a wheel loose even when the nut feels tight.
Common Questions
How many sets does my car need?
Each set is five nuts. A four-lug VW uses 16 and a five-lug hub pattern uses 20.
Can I put these on my stock 1971 Super Beetle?
Only after converting to M14x1.5 studs, since the car came with lug bolts.
