For years, doing a proper big brake conversion on the 914 was an extremely difficult task. You'd either end up with big 48mm 911 front calipers with small 33mm stock rear calipers, (upsetting your factory brake bias), 911 front and rear calipers, (losing your vital parking brake), or you'd have to pay thousands of dollars for Factory 914-6 or modified Ferrari 308 calipers. Yikes!
Along comes the "PMB Solution!" We took a set of factory original 914-6/GT Calipers and had our new casting made to exacting OE specifications. Everything from the caliper body to the internal adjusters is brand new, freshly cast, precisely machined, and ready to go on your car.
The Factory 914-6/GT style rear is the same caliper that was on the back of the Le Mans winning car in 1970. It provides two main benefits.
Factory Brake Bias with 911 Front Calipers:
The first and most important benefit is the ability to retain a factory brake bias with any of the 911's 48mm piston front calipers. Anything from the humble M-caliper to the S-Caliper or A-Caliper will match up with these perfectly in the rear. The piston size versus a stock 914-4 rear grows from 33mm to 38mm, just like the rear of a 911. Retaining your factory bias also means that your brake pressure regulator will continue to function perfectly.
Larger Pad Size for Better Grip:
Next comes the larger pad that is found on the 911's and 914-6 calipers. This larger surface area equates to better stopping power. The same size rear pad that stopped the 914-6/GT, the venerable 911RS and the early 930 Turbos!
Vented Rear Rotor:
The third benefit of these calipers is the ability to run a 20mm vented rear rotor. If you're driving your car hard on track, or even in the backroads, sometimes a solid rotor just doesn't cut it for heat dissipation. A vented rotor will completely solve that problem and make sure that your pedal stays firm and your brakes don't fade.
