The left heater channel is the fresh air passage that carries air from the front of the Karmann Ghia back along the left side of the cabin to the heating system. When it rusts through, heat output drops and water and road debris get into the floor area.
This JP Dansk piece is a replacement body part for the left (driver) side, made to be fitted in place of the corroded section.
