Product details
EMPI 98-1182-B is the lower fuel pump gasket for 1961–1974 air-cooled VW engines, sealing the joint between the fuel pump flange block and the crankcase (VW reference 113 127 311). The stock mechanical pump sits on a stack, with this gasket on the case, the flange block (spacer) on top of it, then the upper gasket and the pump. The pushrod passes through that stack, so a tired lower gasket lets crankcase oil weep out at the base of the flange. Sold individually.
The upper gasket is EMPI 98-1183-B (VW 113 127 313). Replace both together, since the flange has to come off to reach this one. The lower gasket serves generator-style and alternator-style mechanical pumps alike, and only the pushrod changes. EMPI's 108mm 98-1180-B goes with the straight pump, and the 100mm 98-1181-B goes with the angled pump on 1973–1974 Type 1 and Karmann Ghia.

Common Questions
Is this the top or the bottom fuel pump gasket?
The bottom one, between the flange block and the engine case. The top gasket is EMPI 98-1183-B.
Will it fit my 1969 Squareback?
EMPI covers the Type 3 from 1964–1967 only, so first confirm your engine still runs a mechanical fuel pump.
