Product details

The VDO Cockpit Series fuel gauge V3-0101-5 is a 2-1/16 inch electric fuel level gauge that reads a 10 to 180 ohm sending unit and pairs with VDO's universal tank sender, V226001. It has a black face, white numerals, a red pointer, and a black bezel. EMPI sells matching 2-1/16 inch VDO Cockpit gauges, such as a voltmeter and an hour meter, so a buggy or custom dash can use one family.

Gauge and sender must use the same resistance range or the needle reads wrong. The V226001 sender reads 10 ohms empty and 180 ohms full, mounts with a universal 5-bolt pattern, and adjusts to tanks 6 to 23 inches deep. VDO offers a mount kit for it, V226451. If you are keeping a stock VW tank sender, choose the 73 to 10 ohm Cockpit fuel gauge (V3-0102-0) instead.

Fitment & Compatibility

A universal gauge. Fit depends on the tank accepting the 5-bolt V226001 sender.

Installation & Tuning Notes

VDO moved its fuel and other resistive gauges to 12/24 volt illumination. On the newer version, a red wire must go to switched power through the ignition switch for the gauge to light, so check that wire if the gauge reads but stays dark.

Common Questions

Will this work with the stock fuel sender in my Beetle?
No. A stock VW sender pairs with the 73 to 10 ohm gauge, V3-0102-0.

Does the gauge come with a sender?
The gauge requires sender V226001, which is its own part number.
