Product details
The EMPI 43-6441-0 is a plastic replacement float for EMPI 40 and 44 HPMX and Weber 40, 44, and 48 IDF carburetors, and it also suits PMO Induction carbs, which are built to take IDF floats. The float rides on the fuel in the bowl and pushes the needle valve shut when fuel reaches its set height. EMPI describes it as the float it installs in its own carbs, in an upgraded plastic version that also fits Webers. A cracked or fuel-logged float lets the level climb, which shows up as flooding or a rich, sooty idle.
Jets, gaskets, and service parts interchange between the HPMX and the IDF, so one float covers both. Inspect the needle valve whenever the float comes out. EMPI's HPMX and IDF needle and seat assemblies come in 1.50mm (43-5366-0), 1.75mm (43-5367-0), and 2.00mm (43-5368-0). EPC 32/36 and EPC 38 carbs use a different float, 43-6550-0.

Fitment & Compatibility
Because fitment is set by the carburetor, this float applies to any air-cooled VW Type 1, 2, 3, or 4 engine running HPMX or IDF carbs, and to PMO carbs on air-cooled Porsche flat sixes.
Installation & Tuning Notes
Set the float level after fitting a new float. For off-road cars that flood when fuel sloshes over rough ground, EMPI's tech staff suggest lowering the float level by a few millimeters.
Common Questions
Is this float sold as a pair?
No, it is sold each. EMPI's HPMX exploded view shows one float per carburetor.
Will it fit my PMO carbs?
PMO states its carburetors accept commercially available IDF floats, and this is EMPI's IDF-pattern float.
PMB Performance can confirm which float your carbs use.
