EMPI's 12-volt ignition coil supplies the high-voltage output routed by the distributor to the spark plugs. Its epoxy-filled construction permits inverted mounting without the fluid-leak concern of an oil-filled coil, making mounting orientation a useful distinction when working in a compact engine bay. The 3.4-ohm primary resistance must suit the points or electronic ignition being used.
