The pinion shaft that carries the distributor drive. It engages the gear on the crankshaft, spins the distributor, and has an eccentric that works the fuel pump pushrod on engines running a mechanical pump. A worn pinion shows up as erratic timing or a drifting idle.

Fitment & Compatibility
Fits 1200-1600cc air-cooled Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3 engines. Replace the crank-mounted drive gear (EMPI 98-1523-B) at the same time if it shows wear.
