Product details

The EMPI 98-6024-B brake bleeder valve cap is a rubber dust cap that snaps over the bleeder on a wheel cylinder or disc brake caliper to keep dirt and moisture out, fitting VW Type 1, Karmann Ghia, Type 2, Type 3, and Vanagon models (VW reference 211 611 483). A bleeder is a hollow screw, and its small passage is how air and old fluid leave when you bleed the brakes. Grit packed into an uncapped bleeder can block that passage, and corrosion at the tip makes the screw hard to open. Sold individually.

Caps go missing during brake work and crack with age. Order one per bleeder, which on a stock drum-brake Beetle means one per wheel cylinder. EMPI's matching 6mm bleeder valve is 98-6023-B (VW 211 611 477A) for the Type 1 from 1958–1979, the Karmann Ghia from 1958–1974, and the Type 3 from 1966–1973.

Fitment & Compatibility

EMPI fits this cap to the Type 1 Beetle from 1958–1979, the Karmann Ghia from 1958–1974, the Type 2 Bus from 1950–1979, the Vanagon from 1980–1992, and the Type 3 from 1966–1973. On an aftermarket caliper, test the fit on its bleeder first.

Installation & Tuning Notes

Work bleeders with a box-end or flare wrench, since an open-end wrench can round the small hex. Snug the bleeder without overtightening, wipe off any brake fluid (it damages paint), and press the cap fully down.

Common Questions

Is this sold as a set?
No, it is sold individually. Order one cap for each bleeder on your car.

Will it fit the bleeders on my 1971 Bus?
Yes. EMPI covers the Type 2 Bus from 1950–1979.
