EMPI x Foose Design Rear Wing, fits all Type 1's (1950-79)
EMPI is proud to collaborate with legendary automotive designer Chip Foose on this all-new EMPI Exclusive rear wing. Precision-engineered and manufactured, this modern reimagining of the no longer available “Herrod Helper” wing adds real aero functionality and style to any Type 1.
The Foose wing and support elements are laser-cut and precision bent from 14-gauge T-6061 aluminum to be lightweight and rigid. Chip designed the wing to provide high speed stability and enhanced rear end downforce at speed. The Gurney flap at the back of the wing adds additional downforce while the TIG welded end plates help direct the air over the wing element. These features help make the wing more efficient than older designs.
The TIG welded aluminum wing stand-offs have been purposefully designed to mount the leading wing edge away from the body to allow cooling air to reach the engine unimpeded. The wing mounts low enough to not interfere with rear visibility, and the wing is mounted high enough to open the rear decklid without interference.
The mild steel mounting brackets are 16-gauge and powder coated black. These brackets sandwich the engine cooling vents for a secure bolt on installation to any Type 1 bug. No cutting or drilling is required for the installation of the EMPI x Foose Design wing, so installation is reversible at any time.
Stainless steel mounting hardware is used throughout the kit for a clean installation.
Includes a pre-applied FOOSE sticker on the side panel of the wing (removable).
