EMPI 00-3398-0 is a pair of carburetor base gaskets for 51mm Weber IDA and EMPI EPC 51 carburetors, sealing each carb to its intake manifold on dual-carb air-cooled VW engines. The EPC 51 is the larger of EMPI's two IDA-pattern carbs. EMPI fits it with 48mm venturis, a third progression hole, and an enlarged float bowl, and all of its parts interchange with the Weber 48 IDA. A leak at this joint causes a rough idle and makes the carbs hard to balance.
The pack holds two gaskets, one for each carburetor. EMPI also sells 00-3396-0, a base gasket pair rated for both 48 and 51 IDA/EPC carbs. For a thicker, vibration-damping mount at the same joint, Bugpack's B156216 polyurethane soft mounts have a 51mm I.D. for the 51 IDA and EPC 51.

For dual 51mm IDA or EPC carburetor setups on air-cooled VW engines, including Type 1 Beetles, Karmann Ghias, Type 2 Buses, and dune buggies running these carbs. For 48mm IDA or EPC carbs, use 00-3396-0.
Installation & Tuning Notes
Clean the manifold and carburetor flanges and check them for flatness before fitting new gaskets. Tighten the carb nuts gradually in an alternating pattern so the flange is not warped. Balance the carbs once the engine is warm.
