We Want YOUR Core Calipers!

Hey Gang, It’s Eric, founder of PMB Performance, writing to you from our shop in Murray, Utah. Two decades ago, I was elbow-deep in a garage, wrestling with a pair of 914 rear calipers, trying to bring them back to life. That’s where this whole thing started—no big plan, just a love for getting things right. Back then, some of you started sending in bins of old calipers, trading them for restoration work. That was the spark for our core caliper program, and it’s grown into something that’s kept us connected to you, our customers, the heartbeat of everything we do here.
Before I get into what makes this program special, let me share a bit about where I come from. I spent years in the music industry, chasing a dream, playing guitar and making people smile with a good riff or a killer song. I worked with bands, magazines, manufacturers, artists, you name it, but what I loved most was the moment when music clicked for someone, when it brought a smile to their face. These days, I’ve traded strings for steel (and aluminum), but the feeling’s the same. When we restore a set of calipers to better-than-new; gleaming, precise, ready to roll, it’s like nailing a perfect chord. The excitement on a customer’s face when they see their pristine calipers? That’s the kind of joy I live for, whether it’s music or mechanics.
So, what’s a core program? In the automotive world, it’s about taking used parts, like brake calipers, and giving them a second life. We collect these “cores” from customers, shops, or salvage yards, then rebuild them to factory specs or better. If we don’t have a core caliper in stock, then we’ll have to restore your cores. If we do have a core set in stock, it’s a win-win: we can often supply them immediately, we keep perfectly good materials out of landfills, and everyone gets reliable, high-quality “factory” components. At PMB, our core caliper program is built around that idea, but we take it further. We stock the exact calipers that came on your specific car, down to the last detail, so shops with a Porsche on the lift can get a restored set fast—no downtime, no delays.
We’re obsessive about precision. I’ll never forget when John Oates from Hall & Oates sent us the calipers for his 1967 911S. We spotted right away that they’d been swapped out somewhere along the line with a later model, superseded casting. Same basic design, but the pistons were wrong, and the housing details didn’t match that rare model. We dove in, sourced the right parts, and rebuilt them to be exactly what that car deserved. That’s our standard for every job, because to us, your car’s history isn’t just a detail; it’s the whole point.
Back in the early days, we’d hit up swap meets or even G & R parking lots, sifting through bins of calipers, shaking hands, and swapping stories with folks like you. One time at Hershey, we crammed so many cores into our Porsche Cayenne that the suspension was begging for mercy by the time we got back to Utah. As we grew nationally and internationally, those trips built this company, not just because of the parts, but because of the relationships. Our core program means we can turn around a set of calipers—better than new—in a flash, keeping shops moving and customers smiling.

Buying core calipers at trade shows!
Things changed after 2020. Swap meets dried up, and with the extensive growth, our core stock started disappearing fast. We’re sitting on about 44 bins now, but with demand still skyrocketing, we’re always hunting for more. That’s where you come in. You’re not just customers to us—you’re the reason we’re here. Our mission at PMB is simple: your experience matters most. Whether it’s a perfect caliper or a quick chat about your build, we want to get it right every time.
So, if you’ve got a box of calipers cluttering your garage, a bin taking up space in your shop, or a stack at your salvage yard, let’s talk. We still trade cores for restoration work, or we’ll buy them outright. Give us a call at [phone number], and we’ll take them off your hands. You’ll clear some space, and we’ll turn those parts into something that’ll make another enthusiast’s day. It’s not just about brakes… it’s about keeping the passion for these cars alive, one caliper at a time.

Quite the box of calipers...
Thanks for being part of our story. Let’s keep making things that make people smile.
All the best,
Eric Shea
