Porsche 911 RSR Tribute Build: 1974 Wide-Body with GT3 Suspension and 930 Brakes
PMB Performance Builds the Ultimate Chassis for Scott Peeler’s Long-Hood Wide-Body 1973 Tribute
Picture a 1974 Porsche 911 transformed into the aggressive long-hood, wide-body silhouette of a 1973 RSR — flared arches, ducktail, perfect stance. The bodywork is stunning. Now imagine it actually drives even better than a factory RSR: razor-sharp turn-in, planted high-speed stability, and brakes that haul it down from triple-digit speeds with zero fade. That’s exactly what Scott Peeler’s latest build is becoming. With the styling complete, PMB Performance took over the mechanical side to make the chassis match the killer looks. Led by our lead technician Wayne Lashlee, we installed Elephant Racing’s premium brake and suspension package — plus a few reliability upgrades — so this car will feel like an entirely different machine on the road or track. |
Scott Peeler: Endurance Racer and Porsche Loyalist
Scott Peeler is a Salt Lake City, Utah-based racer with a deep-rooted passion for Porsche sports cars and endurance events. His résumé includes everything from club racing to major international competition. The standout moment came in 1998 when he competed in the legendary Rolex 24 at Daytona behind the wheel of a Porsche 911. Scott and his team completed an impressive 638 laps, proving he doesn’t just drive these cars — he pushes them to the absolute limit for a full 24 hours. That same endurance mindset lives in his current project. The wide-body RSR tribute looks the part; now the mechanicals will deliver the performance and reliability Scott demands. |

PMB Performance Progress: Brakes & Suspension That Match the RSR Look
The body is done. Time for the chassis to catch up. Wayne and the PMB team focused on three key areas: massive stopping power, modern GT3-inspired geometry, and dialed-in damping — all while fixing previous oil-line routing issues to ensure the car is 100% reliable for performance driving.
Brakes – Elephant Racing 930-ERX Calipers
We bolted on a full set of re-engineered 930-ERX four-piston calipers (front and rear). These are direct bolt-on replacements with staggered piston design for perfectly even pad wear — a huge upgrade over the original same-size pistons that caused tapering. They run massive 304 × 32 mm front rotors and 309 × 28 mm rears, delivering incredible thermal capacity and fade-free pedal feel. Low-profile cooling fins clear even Fuchs spokes with no spacers needed, and parking brake functionality is fully retained. The result? Confidence-inspiring stops whether Scott is on a canyon road or late-braking into a Daytona-style straight. These calipers give the wide-body RSR the serious bite its looks deserve. Front Suspension – Elephant Racing GT3 System
Next came the game-changer: the complete Elephant Racing GT3 Front Suspension System. Wayne installed an aircraft-grade aluminum subframe, which weighs roughly half as much as the stock crossmember, along with adapted 997 GT3 control arms and oversized precision heim joints built for accurate, repeatable adjustment. From there, the front end became far more tunable than a typical classic 911 setup, with camber, caster, and track width all adjustable through left/right threaded adjusters without dropping the subframe. You can check out the Elephant Racing GT3 Front Suspension System here. |
The longer control arms and revised geometry improve the camber curve through suspension travel, add much better caster stability, and remove the slop and flex that can hold back confidence at speed. It also bolts on reversibly and works especially well with the car’s lowered wide-body stance, helping the front tires stay planted and composed under braking, turn-in, and mid-corner load. The end result is a front suspension package that gives the car sharper response, more grip, and the kind of straight-line and cornering stability that makes it feel planted, predictable, and ready for real performance driving. |
Shocks & Struts – Von Shocks + 911RSRS Front Coilover Struts
To complete the package, we fitted Von Shocks front and rear. These are hand-built, computer-dyno tested, and pair-matched with actual dyno sheets for each serialized set — unmatched consistency you simply don’t get from mass-produced dampers. Monoball lower mounts eliminate rubber compression for precise, predictable damping. You can check out the Von Shocks coilover systems here. |
We had "minor" modifications here. You can see we beveled the control arm and had to mill the spacer to get the shock and spring off the heat exchanger. Both heat exchangers (old style) needed to be heated with an acetylene torch and modified for clearance. Well worth the time and effort. Up front we installed the RSR-style threaded coilover struts (shorter length specifically for lowered cars) so spring rates and ride height are dialed exactly to the RSR look and handling targets. The combination turns this 1974 911 into a responsive, planted weapon that will feel nothing like its original self. |
Reliability Bonus Work
While everything was apart, Wayne re-routed and secured all oil lines to eliminate previous issues and performed a full systems check. The car is now track-day and endurance-ready — exactly what a racer like Scott expects.
Ready to Drive Like a True RSR
Scott wanted to extend a special thanks to "Eric and the team at PMB performance. They have taken my 1973 ST reimagined to a new level. Adding coil-overs suspension, dual piston brake calipers and an array of details with respect to sensors and wiring issues." -We're super happy you landed here Scott!- When Scott slides behind the wheel, this 911 will feel like a totally different car. The GT3 geometry and Von coilovers deliver razor-sharp turn-in and glued-to-the-road stability through high-speed sweepers. The 930-ERX calipers will stop it on a dime with perfect feel. The wide-body stance, long-hood rake, and classic RSR attitude are finally backed by chassis performance that matches the looks. Scott’s 1998 Daytona endurance spirit now has modern mechanicals worthy of the legend. We can’t wait to hand the keys back and hear his first impressions on the street and track. |
