A race is the grooved part of a C.V. joint that the balls ride in. This is a hardened race made by EMPI for its 934 C.V. joints, as the replacement for the races in 98-5096-B and 98-5097-B. Cages and races are made for EMPI C.V. joints.
Stock joints are fine in mild applications. High-horsepower and off-road builds are where race-hardened parts are needed.
