The Jail Bar is Finally Back!
These little guys have been hard to find! Introduced in 1980 Porsche began using a 28-tube all-brass oil cooler in place of the trombone cooler on all European 911SCs and Turbos. Only a few made it over to the states. Those who have them (we have one on our 3.0RS car) love them.
This cooler reduced the operating temperatures over the standard trombone cooler by 30 degrees F. The trombone cooler remained in place in the US, mainly because changing the operating temperature of the engine would affect emissions ratings (they needed them to run a little hotter). You don't want yours running hotter! Get a 15% reduction in heat... enjoy the ride. This is a must for those putting a higher horsepower motor in their long-hood or virtually every US Spec 911SC on the planet. The no nonsense durability of this cooler make it one of our favorites.
