Here's an entire page of videos from Frances and the Tinkergineering team!  Follow along as she builds her own 914EV.  We had the pleasure of hosting the entire Tinkergineering crew at the shop as we showed Frances the ins and outs of world class caliper restoration.  She did an "amazing job".  We'll let her tell her story!

I am Frances. Tinkergineering is all about my adventures in tinkering. The 1976 Porsche 914 is my favorite car and now I have one... The work begins!

I have been receiving great feedback and support from the Porsche and EV communities. THANK YOU so much. I have a lot to learn. I want to take out the old EV bits and upgrade the battery and motor as well as do an accurate and honest restoration. Sand/soda blast and maybe keep to the original paint code.

This was an old contest for the best 914 story but this one shows you how amazing new panels will look in your car!

STUD WELDER

Learned what a slide hammer can do! Whoever invented this is a genius. I got to team up with Granpy as my faithful assistant on this fun episode of fixing more dents on the 914. Lots of Body stuff completed. I also learned what Granpys first car was and what car he took to get his driver's license- turns out it wasn't a horse-drawn carriage!

SEMA GARAGE Scanning My 914

I HAVE A BIG ANNOUNCEMENT! I am at the SEMA GARAGE learning how to 3D Scan my 914 for accurate measurements. Plus I couldn't resist getting Scanned myself. I hope to continue to motivate kids (big and little:) to get out there and tackle their own dreams!

Frances Valances 914 EV project day #907

600 days to get it done (before I can drive it...legally...to the beach, err.. school) Okay, I was debating on just trying to find cleaner valances when I got a good look at mine, but, I am glad I learned how to fix these up because they look like a Million Bucks! Frances' Valances are ready to rumble. Just don't part near curbs or those concrete parking spot stoppers. that will cost me more hammering and painting. Back of the parking lot, please!

PMB + TINKERGINEERING

What a Great experience! I learned what it takes to Restore my Porsche 914 brake calipers back to spec. Eric at PMB walked me through the entire process and shows us what an amazing shop PMB Performance is. They even have a Porsche Pinball machine. Heaven!! Anyone got any quarters??

Field trip to the 914 SWAP MEET at Bruce Stones'

Hey guys I am back with a quick but fun look at the 914 Swap Meet. I learned some 914 philosophy by @914electric, offered TIG lesson from @ironcobrasfabrication, FORGOT to pick up 2 lug bolts I need (don't ask where they went off to). Got to meet REX and his '72 he bought new, ran into @VinceDelgado16, and met a few other unique 914'ers.

TINKERGINEERING: PORSCHE 914 WELDING AND RUST REPAIR

I have been hard at work for the past few months cutting out all the rusty pieces in my 914 and replacing them with the donor metal in preparation for paint. I got my first welding lesson from John Esposito, for which I am forever grateful. It's super satisfying to see this all come together.

Weedon’s Air Cooled - 914 Dismantler & Restoration

We met Vince though his OfferUp (Hisperia, CA) listing and had to go make a visit. I was able to keep up with the 914 terminology better than I thought. Unscrewing every nut and bolt has been secretly teaching me something :) Eventually I need to find chrome bumpers, a Frankfurt radio, spare tire, and mostly a few usable pieces of metal that I can replace this spring. How To Swap and Restore a 1976 Porsche 914 Into an Electric Vehicle(Or any Porsche)

Welcome to Tinkergineering! This winter I bought my first car, a 1976 Porsche 914, with the money I earned from picking grapefruit from the tree at my house.  The Porsche is my favorite car of all time and I will be converting it to a electric electric vehicle. My main goal is to show other eleven-year-old girls how to take action in what they believe, for me its rebuilding this 1976 Porsche 914 to an electric vehicle. From bumpers to batteries I have my work cut out for me. Tinkergineering is all about my adventures in tinkering. Joy is what it gives me. Where are my manners, I am Frances and learning to share this joy has become my purpose. For my next project, I want to solve a minor issue for myself. On September 16th. 2024, I will turn 16.

I test drove an Electric Porsche 914, (closed course) game-planned the best-case scenario for my 914 build with Mark @914electric, and got some waves all in one day. Porsche 914 EV project- Outer Rocker Panels Off!

Today I am showing you How To Remove A Dashboard from a Porsche 914. Anyone can do it!. Follow along while I teach you How To Remove A Dashboard. My next step will be upgrading the Dashboard to go with my porsche 914! One thing to take away from removing a Dashboard is that Taking the Dashboard out wasn't as hard as I thought! Anyone can do it! The Dashboard is only a hand full of nuts and bolts! I think my secret weapon for this job might not exist as much when its time to reinstall.  :) I found a few things that I am wondering about. Maybe you know what it is. Lots of wiring labeling too, glad my tips in the video will help you with the wires. I hope you enjoy this. I am getting better at working on this car too. Today is a quick break from the 914 Restoration & heading to Bonneville Salt Flats for a safe and distanced check-in with Team EV WEST and their Tesla motor-driven Electraliner. As you know I am trying to make this Porsche 914 get a range of 150 miles. This required me to learn from the best in the biz in all things EV. These guys are literally writing the book on how it's done. So many amazing mentors under one roof. Having the chance to follow their projects and ask advice is what's going to make this process special.

EV WEST shop tour

EV WEST just might be one of the coolest speed shops in the world. They even hold race records in EV class racing events from Pikes Peak to Bonneville. If there was one place I need to go to for my Porsche 914 EV project it's EV WEST. These guys do it all and make it work, that's exactly why I came to visit. Michael and Mark are so kind as to share their passion for electrical conversions. Matt @914Rubber was also on hand to make sure it was fun. I learned about AC vs DC motors and Frequency vs Voltage. EV West is a party come take a look!
